LOVE LETTER FROM A HOUND TO HER LADY
all i remember from shakespeare is that romeo died to keep juliet who died to keep
romeo; you look at those tragedies with eerily warm eyes and a
garnet-bright place in your heart for words and visions, and i look at you the same.
of course we have no money, we work in a library and i ran off
to follow a man with his gun in the room to watch me as i write to you. but yes, i
am a dog, trailing you for your loyalty, running at your very word
because by god, you’re the most beautiful woman i’ll ever lay hunter’s eyes upon. if
you still fear my teeth, that they’ll someday tear you to shreds, know
my teeth will meet nothing but your teeth and your lip if we should ever kiss—and
i hope we do. if you believe me, write me, and i’ll answer when i’m
safe to do so. i love you.
